No monitor display

When I switch on my desktop pc nothing appears on the monitor but the cpu fan runs. The red light stays stationary red. No light on the floppy drive but there is light on the cd rom drive. I suspect cpu problem. What do you think? This was after changing something in the bios.

A cd in DVD drive D is read upon rebooting, but when the cd is removed and another one is inserted, windows cannot see/read the cd. Instead info of the previous cd remains stuck there until I reboot again. Even if the previous cd is now inserted, it cannot be read until after reboot.

How can I correct this problem?

Hi could you please check all leads are in back of computer if these are ok then take the case of and check the leads going to the hard drive as this can give you this problem maybe one of the rwo leads going to the hd hve come loose check this then get back to me ok

If you can hear the cd drive work then put windows disk in and see if it loads from disk if not then check the leads to the hard drive ok then get back to me

It sounds like hard drive problem or it could even be that the ram is in wrong slots like p133 in p100 slot and visa versa this can cause the problem your having so if you have moved these then try swaping them round ok but double check you can hear the hard drive boot up you should hear it the same as cd drive

I was given an emachine T2742, I turned it on and it worked for a little while and then went off by itself. I can hear and see the fan running. It will not come on but will continue to try to start. ...

After running can you feel any heat around the CPU heatsink? Does the CPU fan run at all?
Is it trying to restart and then looping back to reboot?

Try to access the Bios (press Del as soon as it switches on) see if you can get to the bios screen, see how long it will stay in the Bios screen before switching off or rebooting. If the bios has a hardware monitor, see what the temp of the CPU is. 30 degrees to 40 degrees is normal

Then switch off, unplug the Optical drives, the hard drive and floppy drive in turn, try to reboot and see if it is stable with just the hard drive installed.

IF the CPU heatsink remains cool after all that, the issue is with a dead CPU or a blown component on the motherbiard

Hi
With that scenario i would recommend you check the front panel assembly where the power button is located and also have you tried to reset the CMOS from the motherboard.

What does the red light mean next to the power button?

The red light next to the power button is usuall the hard drive led which should blink every time the hard drive is in use, there is normally a green or yellow light for the power that shoukld stay on constant when the computer is on.
