Split screen from DVD player, cable is fine no problem

I had an old DVD player on my Sony but it would not play certain formats and stopped working. So I replaced is with a newer DVD player with progressive scan - Samsung. The picture is split and compressed at an angle. When input is from the cable the picture is good. Any ideas? Im using a sony dvd player and facing the same problem. Not able to turn off the progressive scan mode. Please help me to stop the progressive scan. Holding stop key for 5 seconds did not work. Thanks,

The progressive scan can work only throug progressive scan CTV.. while some of the newest DVD player today has a progrissive... now you must turn OFF the progressive scanof your DVD on the set-up menu to see the real screen display.

Give make and model so we can help you turn off progressive scan. Or go to manufacturer's website and get manual and look it up.

Imported videos onto computer, burnt DVD, will not read on Panasonic DVDS player, does it need finalising if so how.?

Depends how old or what model your DVD player is ? When I burn DVD's with my video editing software on my computer, some disks will not play on certain older DVD players, has something to do with video codes that the DVD player has to read? My experience is that my older DVD players will not play burnt DVD's from my computer, but will play in newer DVD players ?

Is there a patch to get the panasonic dv 373 dvd player to play avi burned discs?

On these old players one cannot update the firmware to play newer formats that are coming out because hardware changes will also be required.

Dvp ns725p says: cannot play this disc

Is it for all discs or just certain types of discs? Some DVD players simply cannot play some formats unfortunately. Often, the issue is with burned DVD-R or DVD+R discs or CD Video. Sometimes it's simply a matter of a bad burn. Refer to your manual as to the formats compatible with your player.

Try going to sony's website and downloading the firmware update for your player. The Blu-Ray format changes so much that sometimes the newer movies will not play without an update. You will need to download the firmware and burn it on a cd-rom. Pay special attention to the instructions....there is a certain procedure and if you do not follow the instructions you can damage your player.

I recorded onto DVD-R discs and then finalized but they wont play on my dvd? how can i get them to play ? i usually buy DVD RW

Some dvd players cannot play certain types of discs. You could check to see if the manufacturer of the dvd player has a firmware update to fix this problem. Older dvd players have trouble playing some of these discs. Most newer dvd players do not have issues and have upgradable firmware to adjust for different formats. Does your burner also do DVD+R discs? Maybe try using those and see if it plays on your dvd player.

DVD player will not play Disney made movies

I don't know what BOLT is, as I fixed my last DVD player 6 years ago at Sony. I think the Disney Format is Newer than your DVD player can read.

I remember Sony had a $5000.00 when new DVD player that was the first generation of DVD's. We would get them in for repair and the guy would say "My Radio Shack $99.00 plays all my DVD's but this $5K FIVE YEAR OLD unit won't play them....

There was NO fix for the problem. The New DVD's were beyond the capability of the 5 year old unit.

SO.. Is the Disney DVD a Blue Ray Disk? Or a new format that your older DVD can't read?

Recorded a DVD on computer but will not play on DVD player

dvd players play only certain kinds of discs and formats. Older ones played -R's, most newer ones play everything. You have to look in manual, or on box before you buy player. If it won't play -R,+R, -RW,and +RW's I pass it by. Find out if your player is limited to certain discs. Some will play VCD and some will not. Some will play DIVX and some will not etc. Stick to the discs and formats your particular player is compatible with.

Split screen from DVD player, cable is fine no problem

It is not clear where you say input is from cable, do you mean the Scart input to your Sony TV? Do not use Progressive scan(p), as this is not interlaced. The normal TV requires an interlaced(i) picture of 50 half frames per second giving 25 complete pictures per second to reduce flicker. Some TVs and projectors and all monitors accept Progressive scan.
