hp dv9000 has a black screen. powers up fine. Start using it in any program and within less than a minute the screen goes black. TNow using an external screen. Laptop only 2 years old and it was expensive.

Try turning on the laptop in a darkened room and use a flashlight shined at the screen to see if you can see an image (when the screen has gone dark). If you can then it is probably the inverter which is pretty easy to replace. It could also be the backlight fluorescent tube but this is very rare. Let me know if this is the case.
