SANDISK Clip 2Gb not getting recognized in PC-repeatedly getting recognized and immediately disconnecting

I bough a SANDISK clip 2GB this thanksgiving holidays from Bestbuy.
It was ok when i transferred songs from my son's Laptop (windows XP professional)
Now i am not able to connect this to my HP Compaq PC in India .SanDiskis not getting recognized and i hear Ding dong sound repeatedly at someinterval when i connect it to USB of my PC. The device manager in my PCkeeps refreshing ,once showing the clip and next with out the clip intune with the ding dong sound.
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2000 Servicepack2
AMD Athlon(tm)XP2400+
2000GHz,192MB RAM

San disk version V01.01.11A

Attempts already made by me
i have tried the update with sansa updater but the clip isnot getting recognized in the PC though showing as connected in theclip.
2)Try to put the clip in HOLD position and with the center button pressed connectected to USB.

3)changed the USB ports and attempted
4)There is no usb seen in the "setting" in the clip.
My problem with the connecting the clip to the computer remains unresolved.
Will appreciate your immediate advice to solve the problem.
I have a USB enhanced Host Controller and i feel there is no problem with my USB.
I got the USB checked by INTEL usb System Check for USB support on Personal Computer.
That found USB ok.
Either WMP11 is interfering or there is some problem with Windows XP interface with the SanDisk Clip.

Thank u for your prompt advice

My Sansa Clip died after installing Rockbox!

Maybe installing Rockbox makes your device corruption. If plug the device to pc, the pc still recognize it, update new firmware from sandisk official site,
Good luck

Brand new Sansa Clip not recognized in My Computer

Sandisk Tech support had me do the following:

- Turn it OFF
- Put it in the HOLD position
- HOLD the center button IN while plugging into USB port, continue to hold for 5 to 7 sec even after plugged in.
At this point MY COMPUTER recognized it. And it worked.

He also had me to:

- In the upper right hand search bar, type in MTP PORTING KIT
I did this and downloaded the first one. Now my Sansa Clip work perfect. I wish I would have talked to him last week before I returned the last one, for the same reasons.

If this does not help call the 1-800 # , opt #4, and ask for GUY (yes that is really his name) out of 5 or so calls to Tech Support he is the only one who knew what he was doing, and how to actually HELP.
