When you click the power button for the TV, it clicks ON and OFF, not long enough for a picture to appear. It is a fast clicking like it is trying to start, but having a rough start. After 30 seconds to a minute, it powers up. This typically only happens when the TV is OFF for an extended period of time and then powered ON.

Thanks for the information! I've soldered simple projects before...is this something I can do..or would you suggest contacting repair company? I'm assuming the power supply is easy to locate? I don't want to make things worse.

Here's how to test a capacitor using an analog multimeter:
  1. Lift one leg of the suspected faulty capacitor from the board.
  2. If it is a high voltage capacitor, it will still hold a high charge. Discharge the capacitor by using a metal screwdriver with an insulated handle.
  3. Touch the screwdriver to both metal terminals at the same time to discharge it.
  4. Set the analog multimeter selector to the appropriate OHM scale before testing the capacitor. The higher the capacitance value, the lower the OHM scale setting should be. The lower the capacitance, the higher the OHM scale setting should be.
  5. Connect the ohmmeter test probes to the capacitor terminals.
  6. The needle pointer should move away from the left side, or the infinity, and veer toward the right before slowly returning to the infinity, left side.
  7. It should then move further to the right when the probes are reversed. This means the capacitor is good.
  8. If the needle pointer goes all the way to the right side and doesn't return to the left, or infinity side, the capacitor is bad, or it has shorted out.
  9. If the needle pointer does not go all the way to the right, the capacitor is bad, or it is open.
  10. If the needle pointer does not return all the way to the left, or infinity side, the capacitor is bad, or it is leaky.

This is a power supply issue. A leaky capacitor in the relay section takes time to charge and activate the relay. The clicking noise is due to the capacitor charging and discharging after the relay is activated.
Check the power supply for bad or blown capacitors. They usually look like these:

Thanks. So you say the capacitor will be noticeable? I believe Capacitors hold a charge, so do I need to be careful when soldering or unsoldering them?

On the main power board near the top right corner there are probably 2 capacitors going bad.You will be able to tell which ones by their swollen tops.Replace with the same value caps and your back in business.
