That is a bad video card. It is time to replace your system board. I am sorry to hear that. I priced replacement boards, and if you get one used (it will have someone elses service tag in it) you can get one for about 140 bucks (not bad, but not great). I suggest you call Dell and see if they have a refurbished board they can sell you, and see if they will have a tech install it. It is likely that they can make an arrangement for you, but, THIS WILL NOT BE FREE. You will have to buy the board, and pay dell for the technician. Your BEST option is head to a computer shop and see if they happen to have any computers just like yours, and you buy the replacement, swap hard drives, and pick up where you left off. If you dont have a pc shop, look for a used 2200 online somewhere. Good luck.

We need to first make sure if we are dealing with a screen failure, cable failure or loose connection. If you have access to an external monitor, boot the laptop up with an external monitor attached and see if you get a normal picture there. If you have access and the picture is normal then we can breathe a sigh of relief that it is not the motherboard and the graphics adapter. The next thing to do is go through the cables and make sure that one is not dislodged from its socket such as the back of the lcd, the left side of the motherboard, check the two wire plug from the lcd inverter to the screen. The inverter which powers the screen may be giving low or reducing voltage causing the screen to dim and fail. Last but not least....the screen is failing and all other components are fine.
