Hello , I just installed a philips cd burner to my tower machine. I know i installed it correctly I mark all the cables. I have a windows XP operating system . The burner I installed will start up and I can hear it running. I also have a cd player . I checked both of them before I started the player would play and the burner would play but it skipped real bad . That the reason for the new philips burner. As i said you can hear both of them running but it show nothing no new hardware found. Nothing, my player will not play now. I have nothing and I need your help. .. Thanks Tim

A few things you can try:
Carefully check that the ribbon cable is firmly seated in the IDE slot on the motherboard.
Perhaps try a new ribbon cable.
Hook up the burner by itself (unplug the power and the ribbon cable from the other CD) Make sure that the burners jumper setting is for cable select or try master and also make sure that the burner is at the end of the ribbon cable not in the center connection
