Oven stays on at all times when plugged

Indicator light and oven stay on when dial is turned to off. The only way to turn off oven is to unplug it.
I think something in the dial is over-tightened and needs to be loosened up. If you can tell me how to remove/adjust the dial, I think this will fix the problem.
