The steamer attachment on my Gaggia Classic has stopped working... Can repairs be done on a DIY basis?

It's either the pump or the solenoid.

When you turn of the coffee switch after there should be a discharge into the water tank - if this happens - the solenoid is blocked but the pump is not.
It is an easy fix.
( This happens when the machine has not been descaled and the solenoid is blocked.)Usually its not the pump.!

Hi There,
Try descaling - sounds like the the solenoid is blocked with lime - don't use vinegar! Try that 1st.
If machine is more that 2 years - not regularly descaled or no water filter replaced regularly, it probably the solenoid.

First check the nozzle at the end of the steam wand, if you have hot water for coffee then you should have something coming out of the steam wand. If the wand is not blocked and the pressure is low then the thermostat might need to be replaced.

It could be that the nozzle is blocked, and or the steam valve is blocked. Try descaling machine, if that does not help then you might have to remove steam valve to make sure it is not blocked.

o rings leaking get a service kit for the steam section

Check the holes in the attachment they might be blocked and the pressure of the steam is blowing it off.

Here a small manual on descaling, you might have to remove the steam wand or use a paperclip to clean out some of the crud in the wand.

Check the shower screen it might be clogged.

you have very steam because like you know our loosing our pressure you need a seal kit be carefull when you play in there calcium buildup is very hard to remove cheers
