We have tried finalizing the disc, and it still won't play on the computer. We have built both of our computers and they have XP, but the discs won't play. Any idea's?

Re: Won't play disc on computer, says it is blank

Perhaps your computer DVD cannot read DVD-R, DVD-RW. Newer DVD boxes can read both DVD- and DVD+, but older ones can only handle one or other format. I had the same problem and replaced the DVD in my PC with one that reads both formats and the problem went away.

I have the same problem but mine doesnt have HD its just regular High quality I have 2 mini DV discs that they have data and I can watch it in the camcorder but 3 different computers said they are blank....

you're camcorder is capable of playing the recorded videos but in order for you to play the videos using a computer, dvd player etc, you have to finalize it from the camcorder first. -finalize the disc first in your camcorder.

Discs will not play back on dvd

What DVD's are you using +R/RW -R/RW some formats may not work especially on non-branded media some DVD players wont even play CD-R but will play some CD-RW of the correct brand.

I suggest that you try your finalized DVD in your PC then create an image using ImageBurn then burn the image onto a branded media and try again. Most firmware on DVD burners are very forgiving and will support a wider range of manufacturers and formats.

Hope this helps, you might want to look on your DVD players website for updated firmware you will need a blank CD and create a update disc using your computer.

Mini-DVD playback

two things:

1) connect the camcorder to your computer using a USB cable and play it through that, by the way, what computer is it?

2) you can finalize without the ac adapter - its a built in safeguard to ensure that there is enough power to allow finalization to complete

Will not finalize

The DVD could be corrupted. Refinalize it and see what happens. Make sure youre using the electrical outlet and not the battery when your doing it.

Sony dvd handycam finalize problem

If your discs are rewritable, you could try putting your discs in your computer. Try opening the folders and try to open all the files. Some of the files may be your videos. If it opens your video player and plays your videos, wait until it plays everything to make sure that all your data were recorded in the disc. Copy everything in your computer and remove your disc. Try playing it again and if it works, then it's already ok. When you are planning to use it again, make sure that you format everything in the disc.

the disc is most probally badly manufactured this is why it could not finalize. the only thing you can do now is playback the disc in the camera and plug the AV out into a stand alone dvd recorder and dump it to disc or hdd.
