Try plugging the unit up to itunes, and restoring the unit. You will lose all the data on your ipod, so make sure that all your data is loaded on to itunes before restoring. Also if you did not get all your songs from itunes, make sure you ran a virus scan. If the song is corrupted it is not going to work on your ipod. Also make sure the song is the right format, have itunes convert the song to be formatted right for your ipod. If none of the above work, check with Apple to see if the unit is still under warranty with this site: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

The serial number can be found on the back of the unit toward the bottom. If you have any other questions feel free to contact www.wiredextreme.com.

Have you tried restoring the iPod yet?
Use the Five Rs to restore the iPod. You will lose the data that is currently on it if you restore but you can always re-sync the data to the iPod.

How to restore an iPod

If you have a backup before, go onto iTunes, right click on your device on the left-hand side bar, and their should be an option 'Restore From Backup', or something similar, click that and it'll restore your iPod to a previous backup.

iPod Data Recovery software can help you, it enables you preview and recover all contents from the iTunes' backup file, including your iPod photos, videos, notes, calendar and contacts.

How to restore iPod
  1. Ensure that you have an active Internet connection as new versions of iTunes and iPod Software may need to be downloaded to your computer.
  2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you do not already have it installed.
  3. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
  4. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
  5. Select your iPod in the Source panel and you will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
  6. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
    • Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
    • Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
    • Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software available.
    • Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software available.
  7. If you are using a Mac, a message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator’s name and password.
  8. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will present one of two messages on screen with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
    • Restore Instruction 1: Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
    • Restore Instruction 2: Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
  9. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
  10. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

Formatted the disk using WindowsXP. Not able to make it play

I would try restoring the iPod on iTunes. When you connect to iTunes, there should be an option to update/restore. I would try that, as it should make it work again.

Because your problem was published a while ago it may be now fixed but if not read this below.

Have you tryed installing iTunes and running updates?

Well if you've already tryed that try using this software to update it http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060110.html

Updating it may remove this error.

If none of them work the next solution is to Format it. To format it not using the software go to "Start" - "My Computer" - look for something called "Removable Disk" click on it just to see if it's actually the iPod then once you've checked right click on it and click on "Format".

If you want to do is using iTunes just plug your iPod in then information will come up on iTunes about your iPod it will give you 2 options update or restore now click "Restore".

Restoring will restore it to it's previours settings and "REMOVE ALL MUSIC AND DATA ON YOUR IPOD".

Good luck. Hope my solution was helpful.
