I have a honeywell thermostat that I want to replace but I don't know which wires go where..theres a red wire a yellow wire and a white wire..also a little mercury thingy at the top..any suggestions

Ok on trhe back plate of the thermostat there should be some brass screws. on the plate by the screws there are some letters On the screw marked R the red wire hooks up to. On the screw marked G the green wire connects on the Y marked screw the yellow wire hooks to. on the W marked screw the white wire hooks to it. The mercury thingingy that is the actual switch that activates the system do not break this bulb. Good luck on your repairs hope this helped you some
