GE Side by Side DSS25KG

It's about a year old...and started a loud humming noise randomly lasting for 30 mins. or more. It's stops when I change the temp to 0 or sometimes when I hit the Turbo cool button.

What could be the cause?

    samsung side by side is not even 2 years old and suddenly started making loud, obnoxious, humming sound lasting from 2 min to 30+ minutes. we were also told by geek squad it's prolly the condensor fan. they wanted to charge $180 just to come look at it. any idea how to check that fan?

    I've had the fridge for about 2 1/2 years. It makes a screeching sound too. It does sound like the fan is the cause. I opened the back panel at the bottom. You can see the fan.Just have to take a few pieces apart to get to it. Very annoying for a new fridge.

A side by side GE refrigerator with a loud hum
Hello Kchoffman73,

It sems we developed the same problem.
The hum seems to be coming from the bottom rear of the
fridge.

we have a GE side-by-side model TFX25JR.
The fridge is about 12 years old.

Whats the status of your fridge ? Did it ever stop
humming ? Did you replace or repair it ?

Sears Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Loud humming noise
That sound is usually your icemaker calling for water. you can turn off your icemaker by lifting the little arm on the icemaker. As the icemaker calls for water the valve will be activated and will hum. This sound is usually not very loud. If your valve is making that much noise you may consider replacing the valve. The part number for you water inlet valve is #2315533 The retail price is $60.18 . I do have these on hand and available to ship out today if you need one. Please just let me know. Comppresor stoped working
Go to the back of the machine and take the lower rear plate off. Taking this plate off will expose the compressor. Check to see the compressor is humming or is hot. If niether take off the relay (located on the side of the compressor) Shake it and if a loud rattling noise is heard replace it. If no rattling noise or the compressor is hot or humming then the compressor is bad.

check and see if compressor is running it is in the rear behind the cardboard cover if it is super hot then you need to get a tech out to look at it and it may still be under warranty

Loud humming noise as fridge is running
if you have ice buildup then the fridge may be low on freon.
or there is dust clogging around the pump or fan is not running.
remove the bottom or back and look around the compressor.
see that the fan is running.

Loud humming noise as fridge is running
Sounds like the freezer fan is rubbing some wires or possible some foam insulation around the fan. I would look into the freezer compartment fan and go from there. The fan Will Shut off when you open the doors. Let me know how you make out and if you need anymore help.

GE SidexSide PSS26SGPASS Makes Humming Noise
GE refrigs have a variable speed evaporator fan motor that is controlled by a computer board on the back of the refrig. now the noise you are hearing is most likely the fan motor ramping up and down in speed (some of my customers say it sounds like a ghost). if its a continuous ramping up and down then the speed cotroller on the board is bad and must be replaced. if its just an occasional sound then thats normal and nothing to worry over.

Btw the reason the noise stops when the door opens is because the fan shuts off when you open the door.
