If this is a heat issue, take of the case and blow out the dust with air compressor (just do this outside away from items you want to keep clean). Also clear away any debis from the CPU fan & heatsink (this can get caked on). Leave the case off for testing purposes and try it again. Take a look to see of the CPU fan to make sure it is moving well. If sputtering it may be your problem.
If you have a powersupply issue (which can be very common if your computer is more and a few years old). You may swap it out for about $30. Just make sure the output on the new one is at least the same (or more) than your old one. Hope this helps. Best Regards, -md
