Turn the A/C on and the fan shgould run, if it doesnt run, take a small hammer or anything and knock on the motor, if it runs or attempts to run the motor is bad, and will need replacement.

Try installing a jumper in place of the fan relay so the fan runs continuously . jumper the function terminal slots in the relay socket, not the signal sockets. the fan should turn on and off with the ignition switch. No fan function will result in a blown head gasket
It will only overheat due to a coolant issue. Either: bad coolant integrity (change out coolant), bad thermostat, bad water pump, leaking radiator, etc. , low coolant level, radiator fan not functioning.
The thermostat may be stuck. If it dosent open then the engine will overheat. If you turn the ac on then the air rushing around the engine will help cool it down. Replace the thermostat and it should fix it
Cars usually overheat when the thermostat is faulty, coolant level is low, or the water pump fails. If your cooling fan on the radiator does not kick on shortly after the engine reaches operating temperature, you may have a bad cooling fan, cooling fan relay, or cooling fan fuse. If your engine is overheating, start by checking the fluid level, and installing a new thermostat.
note if it overheats on the freeway or in city driving. If it overheats soon after you leave the house then in has to be the thermostat. If it overheats at city driving where there are lots of stop and go driving or while you are parked with the motor running, then check the radiator fan function properly. If it takes a while to overheat and tend to do it when driving on the freeway, it is a clogged/dirty radiator. If it looses coolant due to a leak, then it will also overheat. The least likely cause which don't even pertain to newer car is a retarted timing. A retarted timing causes a car to loose noticable loose of power accompanied by overheating. A retartded timing is usually common in older car where timing is adjustable by turning the distributor. Your car is exempt from this.
All trailblazer's are equipped with what is known as an electroviscous fan clutch. It is a fan clutch that is electronically controlled by the computer. I would think that your check engine lamp would be on and it would set a code for fan speed performance if there was a failure. Is the ses lamp on? Also you may want to check coolant level? Just because it is cold out doesn't mean that now that it is getting warmer that the coolant level is now low and causing an overheat condition. If it is 32 degrees or lower most vehicles can run a long time with no coolant in the compared to a 90 degree day where you are lucky to get 10 minutes before you overheat
