I apologize that I am having a hard time following the thread as to what you have tried and so forth. I will assume the following:
1. You have an old battery that does not hold a charge but the laptop does run with this battery installed, from AC or from AC w/no battery installed.
2. You have installed the new battery (with the laptop off) and it does not run from the battery or when plugged in.
3. You have tried charging the new battery 4-6 hours.
4. You are using the original charger or one that is fully rated for the laptop - I think this needs a 90W.
New question: does the charge light come on?
If the above are all true then there are 2 possible problems:
1. Bad (shorted) battery - this is possible, although unlikely, fro a new battery.
2. Power connection on the motherboard is faulty. The center pin may be loose, thus not giving full power to the system to charge the battery and run the laptop at the same time. This should be "overcome" by charging the battery w/system off. OR, the connector is like a headphone jack in that when you plug in, the primary connection is opened but on this series of laptop I have seen this fail.
Try powering up with the battery in and adapter plugged into the laptop but not to the wall.
Let me know what you discover. Reply w/my name so I know which thread to read.

- Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner but it was hectic - like everybody needs their computer for the weekend!
First thought is which came first - the new universal adapter or the new battery. Was the old battery just not holding much charge or did it stop working about when you got the charger.
This is my best guess at the moment: the universal charger plug is loose in the laptop jack - that is, the outside diameter is not large enough to open the normally closed connection between th battery line to the motherboard so the battery and pwr supply are "shorting" each other out. The plug needs to fit snugly both on the center pin AND the outer ring. It is like a headphone jack - when you plug in the headphones, it turns off the speakers. If you can find a true ACER supply and that works then that is the problem. Also I find the Kensington universal supplies have pretty good fitting plugs and the Chinese ones - not so good. Maybe you can take it to a shop and they would have an Acer supply to try.
Otherwise - I'll be scratching my head some more!
Let me know.
