Question about Garmin StreetPilot i5 GPS Receiver

Garmin i5 All of a sudden my garmin stopped working I can't get it to turn on. I took it out of car from the lighter plug in tried changing the batteries inside the house and I still can't get it to turn on. I read the manual and no where does in indicate trouble shooting problems. Can I return it to the manufacturer. I have only had it for one year and 3months

    Same problem, works fine in car with cable connected, but not with new batteries, won't activate at all ??? Garmin support does not respond.

    Lost power with two of these units. Power faded in and out with the second unit, now seems to be lost for good. Tried using the power cables in two different power sources in the car and then repeated the effort with the power cable from the first Garmin - still no power... Any suggestions?

    I got into my rental car today (I'm on vacation) and noticed my i5 was still on from yesterday - it never powered down (I left it plugged into the car). While keying in my next destination, the screen went blank. Thinking it was the batteries, I replaced them but it's still blank.

Resetting Your StreetPilot
If your StreetPilot freezes (stops responding to button presses), try turning it off and then on again. If this does not help, remove the batteries and then reinsert them. Disconnect from external power, if necessary.
Clearing all User Data
If resetting does not fix your problem, you may need to clear all user data from your StreetPilot.
• IMPORTANT: zf you clear all user data, you will delete all saved locations from My Favorites I and all settings in your StreetPilot. Be sure you want to clear all user data before proceeding.
To clear all user data, press and hold down all buttons in the following order: ciJ, Wheel, Power.
Continue holding down all buttons until you see a prompt, “Do you really want to erase all user data?”
Select
Yes.

Garmin says low battery and now will not work in the car. Does this Garmin have a battery inside the unit that I have to replace?


There is a battery in the satnav but it's not user replaceable. It can only be replaced by returning it to Garmin. Before sending it away to replace the battery you could check the following;

  • Have you the satnav connected to the charger?
  • If it's connected to the charger is the cigarette lighter socket working. You can check by plugging in another device to see if it works
  • If the cigarette lighter socket is working and the battery of the satnav is not charging it's possible that the fuse in the plug, that goes into the cigarette lighter socket, is blown.
To change the fuse;
Unscrew the ring that's at the end of the plug and the plug comes apart. Be careful not to lose the silver coloured tip. When the plug comes apart you can take out the fuse and get a replacement at any car accessory shop or a shop that sells garmin satnavs.

I just took my Garmin 1200 out of the box and plugged it into the cigarette lighter in my car and it did not work...I have a blank screen...my car is 12 years old!


No power at all?
Check your lighter socket to see if it's getting power (plug lighter in and see if it gets hot). Check the power plug on the provided cable. It contacts a fuse that may either be missing or blown. And last, check the connection of the cable as it plugs in the rear of the Nuvi.

Is it charged? If you are using the cigarette lighter adapter plug, there is a fuse in the silver tip of plug...... unscrew it carefully..its spring loaded... check fuse

I have a Garmin i5. I have used it for years but on a recent trip it just stopped working. By this, I mean it won't turn on. I tried switching batteries several times, and the reset described by holding...


try plugging it in to the usb port on your computer, then if it starts, install the batteries.

if you did not get a usb cord with your gps, pretty much any usb to mini usb cord will work.

Garmin nuvi 255 won't turn on


Have you tried doing a hard reset,try using the reset button on the bottom of the gps under the serial label.Or try holding the turn off button for about 10 seconds,good luck.

My Garmin Nuvi (200 I think) freezes..


My recomendation is to use the original accesory for cigarete lighter. I'll give you an example: when I connect my Nuvi 200 to any other USB cable (computer or home charger) its behaviour is like you said - it "says" that is connected to a computer and remains in stand by. But when I connect it to cigarette lighter (but note - the original one) the nuvi 200 recognize it as a car power source and works. The battery symbol disappear from screen and it works perfectly. When I turn off the engine or simply unplug the device from cigarette lighter (not from nuvi !) it recognizez that and ask me if I want tu turn it off on remains on on own battery. If I make no option the nuvi will turn off automatically after some seconds. So it recognize perfectly the car adapter and its behaviour is adapted to a car.

My garmin i5 doesn't know where it is +


I would suggest that you return it to Garmin since it's still under warranty. My Garmin i5 will NOT operate on just batteries. This unit is also under warranty. Also, the suction cup mount fails to hold onto the windshield. I've been concerned about how many people seem to have problems with these units.

The lighter socket does it work. Because it to has a fuse. ck your car fuse box (mini fuse).
