The screen just shows the apple symbol in the centre of the screen with the 'busy' circle animated underneath. It stays like this for 3 or 4 minutes and then goes blank and begins the process once again. It worked okay before this. Can't think of anything done to it that would cause this problem. Regards, Baz
Hi Baz,
This is often a sign of directory corruption on the HD. Try starting up from your installation CD (restart and hold down the C key as soon as you hear the bong - keep holding 'till the Apple appears) The CD will want to install all over again but if you look at the menu bar you should find a Utilities entry. Select Disk Utility and use to to repir the disk. Often that is all you need do. However, sometimes you get a message saying that disk repair failed or could not repair the disk. In that case you need some stronger software - and the best place to start is with diskWarrior from Alsoft. It is very good at getting almost dead disks back to life. It will inform you if there is something wrong with the disk that is making the disk itself unreliable. If it does then the HD needs to be replaced - which is a workshop job on these Macs.

Not having much luck with this computer lately. Some keys have just stopped working on it for no apparent reason. It's not like they're all grouped together either 3 of them are on one side of the keyboard and four on the other! We've tried giving it a good clean with an air duster but no joy, IT guy at work reckons it's a hardware problem, any ideas?

While is was searching on the internet my iBook G4 locked up. I tried to reboot and it locked up again. I tried to reinstall OSX but during the install it locked up. I replaced the memory and hard drive and got the same results. The system continues to lock up during install. What could be wrong? Logic board? Something else? Any help?

my ibook g4 locked up one day while I was on the internet. I tried to reboot, nothing. I tried to reinstall Leopard, the computer locked up during the install. I replaced the hard drive and memory and still it locked during install of Leopard. What else could be causing the system to lock. Mother board? Processor?
