A 6cm wide vertical black strip on the screen

I have a 6cm wide vertical black strip on the right side of my screen. This has shifted the whole display to the left and down. The bottom task bar has disappeared. The icons are all distorted, and if I open any files, everything is very distorted.
Its an Acer Aspire 2920 laptop.
