superstar 121 with astatic power mic and texas star dx 500 power..when I key up to talk they say I sound like I'm a ways from the mic, but I have a loud roger beep...any ideas....mic?...

try a stock mike or a noise canceling one. Hard to run power on top of power. And see what your radio is dead keying into the radio...usally with a 500 it can take up to a 6 watt dead key.
