Scratches on microwave door

I was trying to clean some grease spots on microwave door and ended up scratching it with a cleaning sponge. How can I remove the scratches or is there any way to replace just the door of the microwave?

Re: scratches on microwave door

We have an over the range GE microwave and my wife was cooking some pasta on the stove and used the vent fan on the microwave to dissipate the steam and when we were done eating she noticed that the steam from the pasta had gotten in between the glass on the microwave door, how can we get rid of this any ideas.

Re: scratches on microwave door

Replacing the door is a bit of a job and I'd bet that Viking parts will be very pricey. Even though these are made by Sharp, you'd have to order door parts from Viking.

You may be able to buff it out with jeweler's rouge / paste or toothpaste on a cotton cloth or even a microfiber polishing cloth.

I advise my customers to never use Windex (ammonia-based) or anything other than a soft cloth to clean the plastic parts.

Please reply back if you need further help.

Re: scratches on microwave door

I did the same thing--scratched the microwave door cleaning with the rough side of a sponge-----tried some car scratch stuff, but that didn't do any good. I put some left over static-cling window film all around the microwave door and that did the trick---can still wipe clean and easily removed if need be without any further harm---(be sure to use static-cling film.

Almost any non-abrasive cleaner would be okay. Use something that can cut grease and I would also recommend using a sponge or wash cloth and nothing abrasive so that you do not scratch any of the paint.

How do i replace smh9207st buttons

If you mean the 4 silver buttons on the lower right of the unit controlling the lite and fan, then see the instructions below...However, if you mean the control panel buttons in the door surrounding the clock display, then you and I are in the same boat. But I digress...

1. Remove the grill atop the unit, 2 phillips screws. Gently slide the grill to the left to unhook it from the unit. This reveals the screw holding the right side cover.
2. Remove the screw holding the cover in place; you can now pull it away from the unit. You must disconnect the wires/plugs from the back. Take a photo for reference. One plug will remain: this belongs to the buttons in question.
3. Set it on a soft cloth to prevent scratching. Remove the screws holding the circuit board in place and the remaining plug; remove the board, then remove the metal tray/box underneath the board.
4. The PCB with the buttons is now visible. There are tabs holding it in place; gently pry them off and the board, a thin plastic shield and the buttons should come free.

Now you can clean/replace the buttons and/or the membrane buttons. Reassemble in reverse.

Cleaning tip: Scrubbing bubbles works great for cleaning icky kitchen grease, although it can leave a film (but it gets the grease!). Follow up with windex (but use a windex-dampened paper towel on plastic to prevent scratching)

I have a Miele h5080bm microwave oven. How can I clean the grease of the roof and sides of the microwave?

You can put a microwave safe bowl of water in the oven and heat it to boiling, stop the microwave, then leave the bowl of water in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes. The steam will loosen the dirt and grease and then it can be wiped with a damp sponge. More stubborn grease my need dish soap on the sponge and a little more elbow grease. Rinse it well with a clean sponge or dish cloth and warm water.

Is this a self cleaning oven? If so how do you set it to self clean?

Self-cleaning microwave oven?

Loosen up gunk and grease splattered inside your microwave by following this simple tip. Fill a pyrex measuring cup or other microwave safe bowl with one cup water and put in microwave on high for three minutes. This should bring the water to a boil. Let it set in microwave for several minutes with the door closed.

Then, wet a sponge or soft rag with a tablespoon of vinegar. If you need a degreaser, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to it. Wipe microwave clean with the rag or sponge. The microwave will practically clean itself. Now that was easy!

I have a GE spacemaker. It releases electric volts when is turned on . Needs to be changed or can be repaired?

Do you mean "sparks" inside the oven cavity when it is operating ?

If so, check for grease spots on the wave guide cover or scratches on the oven liner. Scratches can be touched up with touch up paint and wave guide cover`s can be replaced.

Hope that help`s, good luck.

Microwave is scratched

You will need the following:
Polishing compound, jeweler's rouge or whitening toothpaste
Electric buffer
Lamb's wool buffing pad
2 ounces of ammonia
2 quarts of water
Rubber gloves
Safety goggles
Lint-free paper towels or cloth

Step 1:
Apply polishing or jeweler's rouge to a lambs wool buffing pad. You can either buff the scratch by hand using a circular motion or with an electric buffer on medium speed.

Step 2:
Wash the polishing compound, jeweler's rouge or whitening toothpaste off from time to time in order to check on the progress of the scratch removal.

Step 3:
Mix two ounces of ammonia with two quarts of water. You may want to be sure to hold your nose closed during this process! Also, always wear rubber gloves and safety goggles when working with ammonia.

Step 4:
Clean the glass surface with the ammonia water with a clean soft sponge.

Step 5:
Dry the glass with a lint free towel. If the scratches are not completely gone, they should at least be less apparent. If there is no significant difference, consider contacting a glass company to replace or rebuff the glass.

Microwave door has burn spots on the glass of the door...

The brown spots are usually grease / smoke deposits. Usually there are indeed two sheets of glass in the door. If the grease is not arcing or smoking, and the metal screen / mesh (that blocks microwave leakage) is not damaged, then it's likely better left alone. It might be useful to boil a few cups of water with a little vinegar inside the microwave to help dissolve the deposits. In case you want to take it apart, I have attached a photo from a similar model that illustrates disassembly of the door. It is not necessary or advisable to remove the door or hinges when disassembling the door.
