'Error code 5 cannot boot from disc' message when trying to clean install windows 7 on 'Time' computer system about 6/7 years old. 2 gig memory, 1250 Athlon processor - MSI board New hard drive

What MSI board in particular? At any rate, it would run like molasses through a carbon filter; get some newer hardware from the trash or re-use programs or by sacrificing money to the Windows 7, Videocards and Systems sellers.
More detail in when the error popped up might be handy too; if you got the message before the Win7 DVD was booted, it's because you didn't go into the BIOS and tell it to boot from the DVD instead of your blank HD. That is great that you can change that, but to save some money and time you might buy a carbon filter and some molasses....
