Try resetting your router and reconfiguring. Secondly try using a different wireless security mode that the 360 adapter supports. If the router is a linksys, that could be the problem. Linksys has a very common drop problem. I have found that D-Link has better integrity for wireless devices. Also try putting another device on the network via Wireless, if the same result, replace the router. Also, you can do a search on google for wireless router tweaks, to optimize the router for and xbox wireless connection. One more thing. be sure you force an ip address for the adapter in the settings area on the 360. That promises the same IP everytime it connects. Then go into your router configuration and forward the ports for xbox live, the wireless connection may not even be dropping, but a port problem with live while trying to authenticate your game system

The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074

It is possible that the Xbox will be unable to pick up the wireless signal being transmitted by your gateway because the signal is too weak.

The connection speed of your internet has nothing to do with the strength of the signal. The best way to test this would be to try to connect to your wireless internet on a laptop while sitting near the xbox. If you cannot, you will know that the signal isn't powerful enough to reach that location.

There are three common options to amplifying your signal if necessary.

1) Purchase a High-gain antenna for your wireless gateway
2) Purchase a wireless repeater
3) Purchase a new router/gateway with a longer range capability. A "Wireless N" enabled router would be optimal for this application.

Tip

Setup your Xbox to a Wireless Network

Xbox game consoles can be connected <span style="text-decoration: underline;"></span> to a router<a href="http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/routers/g/bldef_router.htm"></a> for wireless access to the Internet and Xbox Live. Follow these instructions to set up the Xbox or Xbox 360 connections to a wireless home network.<br /><br /> <ol> <li>Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter<a href="http://compnetworking.about.com/od/hardwarenetworkgear/g/bldef_adapter.htm"></a> to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet sometimes also called a wireless network bridge must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi <i>game adapters</i> that connect to a USB port.<br /><br /></li> <li>Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -&gt; Network Settings -&gt; Advanced -&gt; Wireless -&gt; Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -&gt; Network Settings -&gt; Edit Settings."<br /><br /></li> <li>Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.<br /><br /></li> <li>Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)<br /><br /></li> <li>Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard MS Xbox Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.<br /></li> <li>Save your settings and verify the network is functional.<br /><br /> On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.<br /><br /> On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.</li></ol> Tips: <ol> <li>Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. How do i hook my mi-fi internet to the xbox 360? i have purchased an adapter and can not figure out how to get the internet working

Here's how to configure your wireless settings:
  1. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings.
  3. If you are prompted to select a wireless network, complete these steps, otherwise skip to step 4.
    1. Select the name of your wireless network.
    2. Enter your wireless network password and select Done.
    3. The console will automatically try connecting to Xbox LIVE. If you get an error message, go to the following webpage for help: support.xbox.com/pages/xbox-live/troubleshoot/connection-issues/connect-xbox-live.aspx (http://support.xbox.com/pages/xbox-live/troubleshoot/connection-issues/connect-xbox-live.aspx)

Note If you do not see the name of your wireless network, select Advanced Options. Then select Specify Unlisted Network and enter your wireless network name. Select your wireless security type (WEP, WPA, WPA, or No Security). This security type needs to match the security of your wireless network.

  4. Select Configure Network.
  5. On the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Mode.

Note If wireless mode is not available and you are using the black Wireless N Networking Adapter, try using the software installation disc included with the adapter. For more information about how to do this, please see the following article: 977641 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977641/ ) How to set up the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter
  6. Select Scan for Networks.
  7. Select your wireless network name.

If your network is not listed, try the following:
    1. Select Specify Unlisted Network, and enter your wireless network name (also referred to as your Service Set Identifier [SSID]).
    2. Select your wireless security: WEP, WPA, WPA2, or No Security (if your network doesn't have a password).

If you can't connect to your wireless network, try improving your wireless signal using the tips in the following article: 909336 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909336/ ) Your Xbox 360 console receives a weak wireless signal
  8. Enter your wireless network password, and then select Done.

Note Make sure that you have entered the correct password. An incorrect password might allow your console to connect to your wireless network, but you might receive an IP address error when you test your Xbox LIVE connection.

  9. Press B on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

My connection is very bad, is it because of my wireless adaptor?

The problem is not with the wireless adapter . Your problem is your wireless connection has low band with and your not getting a strong signal . Try moving your 360 closer to your wireless base station or to a room thats closer to your wireless . If the problem persist use an internet cord and run a direct link to the wireless base to the xbox 360 . Also check to make you dont have any other wireless devices connected to your network as this can reduce your band with and cause your Xbox 360 to not get a strong signal .

BT HomeHub wireless router which cannot connect to the XBox 360

your router may have incorect connection settings. what i mean is that your router may have security on that rejects connecting to adapter. check if the xbox can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. this will tell for sure if the 1 the adapter cannot read the signal or 2 the adapter is not able read any signals. to test if its the adapter, try searching for other signals.if you find any other signal it means your router. is rejecting to send the signal to the xbox.

Xbox 360 wireless adapter connects but can't join parties!

If you think its the wireless adapter, try using a laptop (that has wireless) to connect your xbox to your network. Just get a straight through (network) cable connect one end to the xbox and the other into the ethernet port on your laptop. Then go into your network settings and bridge the connections (if you don't know how to bridge connections try youtube or just google it) Now your laptop acts like your wireless network adapter. See if your problem occurs with the laptop, if not then it is the adapter. I hope this helped solve your problem.

"wireless network not connected"???

Enter your IP address? If not go to http://whatismyip.com/ and enter that manually into your internet settings, on the last tab on the right of the dashboard. If the wireless adapter isn't reading the signal then you might have to reposition your router so it receives the signal.
