Re: xbox 360 wireless adapter connection

Try resetting your router and reconfiguring. Secondly try using a different wireless security mode that the 360 adapter supports. If the router is a linksys, that could be the problem. Linksys has a very common drop problem. I have found that D-Link has better integrity for wireless devices. Also try putting another device on the network via Wireless, if the same result, replace the router. Also, you can do a search on google for wireless router tweaks, to optimize the router for and xbox wireless connection. One more thing. be sure you force an ip address for the adapter in the settings area on the 360. That promises the same IP everytime it connects. Then go into your router configuration and forward the ports for xbox live, the wireless connection may not even be dropping, but a port problem with live while trying to authenticate your game system

The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074

Cant find a strong enough connection

You need to buy a Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander to boost the signal
  • Move your wireless router to a central location in your network, keeping in mind that the router should be at waist level at the very least, not on the ground.

  • Plug in the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander in the room where your wireless router is. You'll move the range expander later, but for setup purposes, it should be in the same location as your wireless router.
  • Press the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander's "Auto Configuration" button for five seconds, which will allow the range expander to detect your wireless network and configure itself with the appropriate settings.
  • Unplug the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander and relocate it to a location closer to the Xbox 360.
  • Ensure that the antenna for the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander is pointing upward, and keep in mind that the higher the range expander is placed, the better performance you will get out of it.
  • Plug the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander back in, and your wireless network should have a much greater range, ensuring that your Xbox 360 is able to maintain a good connection to the network.

I have an ac adapter for the new xox 360 250 gb , that has the red light lighted up that means false alarm what should i do to get it back to green its been 1 week?

Check the status light on your adapter The state of the adapter's status light indicator can tell you the status of the Xbox 360 Wireless G Networking Adapter. Here's what the different lights mean:
    • Steady green light: The adapter is connected to a wireless router, gateway, or access point. The adapter is ready to use.

      Collapse this imageExpand this imagewirelessnetadptgreen1.jpg
    • Steady red light: The adapter is ready to be configured. For information on how to do this, please see: 908877 ( ) How to configure wireless settings on your Xbox 360 console
    • Flashing red light: There is a problem. The adapter might be experiencing a hardware failure. Contact Xbox support.
    • Not illuminated: The adapter is not receiving power. Unplug the USB connector and plug it in again. Still no light? Try plugging the adapter into a USB port on the front of the console.

    1. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
    2. Select Network Settings.
    3. Select Configure Network.
    4. On the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Mode.

Note If wireless mode is not available and you are using the black Wireless N Networking Adapter, try using the software installation disc included with the adapter. For more information about how to do this, please see the following article:
977641 ( ) How to set up the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter
    5. Select Scan for Networks.
    6. Select your wireless network name.

If your network is not listed, try the following:
      1. Select Specify Unlisted Network, and enter your wireless network name (also referred to as your Service Set Identifier [SSID]).
      2. Select your wireless security: WEP, WPA, WPA2, or No Security (if your network doesn't have a password).

If you can't connect to your wireless network, try improving your wireless signal using the tips in the following article:
        909336 ( ) Your Xbox 360 console receives a weak wireless signal

    7. Enter your wireless network password, and then select Done.

Note Make sure that you have entered the correct password. An incorrect password might allow your console to connect to your wireless network, but you might receive an IP address error when you test your Xbox LIVE connection.
    8. Press B on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

If you successfully connect to Xbox LIVE, you'll see this screen:

BT HomeHub wireless router which cannot connect to the XBox 360

your router may have incorect connection settings. what i mean is that your router may have security on that rejects connecting to adapter. check if the xbox can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. this will tell for sure if the 1 the adapter cannot read the signal or 2 the adapter is not able read any signals. to test if its the adapter, try searching for other signals.if you find any other signal it means your router. is rejecting to send the signal to the xbox.

Cant grt xbox360 wireless adapter conected to wireless router on pc down stairs

I assume the wireless router is configured correctly and the PC can connect to the wireless router and the Internet.
The problem could be that the signal is too weak upstairs for the XBox especially if you have a concrete floor between the XBox and the wireless router. Try moving the wireless router around to increase signal strength to the CBox.
The other problem could be the XBox is not configured correctly.
Follow these instructions to configure the XBox.
    1. In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open System Settings.
    2. Select Network Settings, Configure Network.
    3. On the Basic Settings tab, select your wireless settings.
    4. Select the name (SSID) of your wireless network. If your router isn't broadcasting your network's name, select Specify Unlisted Network and enter the name.
    5. If your network has wireless security, enter your WEP or WPA key.
    6. Try to connect to Xbox LIVE again.

The newer 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz wireless routers should reach a couple of hundred feet. Make sure you do not have your SSID hidden. If you do, you will need to manually enter it into the xbox settings along with other security you have on the router.

    "wireless network not connected"???

Enter your IP address? If not go to and enter that manually into your internet settings, on the last tab on the right of the dashboard. If the wireless adapter isn't reading the signal then you might have to reposition your router so it receives the signal.

    Xbox 360 adapter

there could be a problem with the adapter, a faulty connectionin the cable or something else, or it could be your router. The adapter only works with type A B & G routers. I know a few people who have N routers and it wont work with them. 1st check to see if your router is a typer A B or G then make sure that the wireless signal is set to a frequency that the receiver can find usually channel 6 or so. 2nd, try disconnecting the adapter rebooting the console, then reconnecting it with the power off. if all else fails, then it might be that it is a bad adapter. Also if you use a wireless encryption, make sure that you have the key entered in the wireless setting on your console, and try using a WEP key as it is easier for the adapter to read then WPA.
