Dryer wont stay running

The problem I have is that when the start button is pushed the dryer starts and then quits. If you hold the door switch in and then HOLD the start button the dryer runs. As soon as you let go of the start switch the dryer quits. Any suggestions.

Re: Dryer wont stay running

The drum motor has a switch that closes when the motor reaches a preset rpm, this "latches-in" the push-on button and lets the motor continue to run

Re: Dryer wont stay running

Either the motor relay, or if this is an evenheat dryer, the evenheat control board could be bad.

Dryer won't stay running without holding down the start button

It may be the centrifugal switch on the motor. The push button starts the motor and as the motor spins up to speed the centrifugal switch closes to keep the motor running. Hope this helps.

Whirlpool 110 electric dryer will not keep running

When you press the start button you complete a circuit bringing the juice into your dryer to run the motor the igniter or heating elements and what ever else goes whee when your dryer is drying. So if you press the button to complete the circuit then when you let go of the button it would stand to reason that it break that flow and shut it all down. However in a dryer there is something of a centrifugal switch that kicks in and keeps that circuit open and flowing with juice once the drum begins to turn and you let go of the button. That's why in a normal situation if you don't hold the button down long enough the dryer will cut right back off or if you open the door to the dryer to throw something in and close it before it quits turning it will stay running. Sounds like you could add this centrifugal switch to the list of possible culprits in this mystery. O7OUT

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor
