Question about Olympus DS-30 Digital Voice Recorder

1 Answer

Recognition of recorder

Hi!,

after having installed the correct Windows Vista Home Premium version of the software for Olympus DS-30 and the icons for Diretrec and Device tools show on my task bar, when I plug the recorder through the USB cable i hear a sound, like the PC recognizing new hardware, but nothing else happens.

The software doesn't detect the device, and i've already uninstalled and reinstalled the software dozens of times, I've uninstalled a dozen other programs to see if it was an incompatibility problem, but it was useless.

Any idea on what to do to fix this problem?

Is there any other important information that is required to trace back the problem?

Can anyone help me with this one?

Thanks in advance, and all the best

No, it doesn' recognize the Olympus recorder. It just makes a sound like when you plug in new software but doesn't do anything else.

I've tried to use another cable, but that didn't work either.

    Looking forward your answer.

    Thank you so much.

    Hi!

    Hope you can see these.

Olympus doesn't show anywhere, not even as an unknown device. A lot of USB items show up, I have no idea if any of those refers to the Olympus recorder.

    Can you see these images?

Does the computer recognize the Olympus DS-30 being connected to it at all? If not, do you happen to have another USB cable that you could try using? Either way, you should try connecting it to a different USB port on your computer, as you might have happened to connect it to one that doesn't work.

Followup: When you say "the software doesn't detect the device," do you mean that Vista doesn't recognize it, or that the Olympus software doesn't recognize it?

When you go into Device Manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager), can you see a device there with an exclamation mark (like the one next to the selected device here) or a device under "Unknown Devices"? If you can find the DS-30 there, try right clicking, going into properties, clicking on the driver tab and click update driver. Then run through the wizard letting it automatically check for better drivers than those you're currently using. Also, does the DS-30 show up as a mass storage device for you in my computer?

Could you try uploading the screenshots tohttp://www.imageshack.us/ (or another service like it)? The screenshots you posted here are in an extremely low resolution making it impossible for me to see the different devices in device manager.

Converting wma files to wav files on olympus DDS player version 7

When using the DSS Player v7 software the program is unable to convert WMA to WAV. The option you see there only works when it is a .dss file that needs to be converted to .wav. In order to convert WMA to WAV you will need to locate a third party software program that does this type of conversion.

Go to google and search on WMA to WAV conversion editors.

Olympus ds-30 voice recorder

I don't think the serial number is required to install the software. I didn't see DS-30 information on the Olympus website. DS-40 was the closest one. No information was availbable regarding serial numbers.

I have a VN-4100PC and don't recall being asked for a serial number. The software is the same thing for all Olympus players.

Driver for windows vista home premium

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I do not have my original Olympus disc. I downloaded the driver from driver guide (http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=583812) > installed driver (in this case pencam.exe. After installing the Olympus software I hooked the USB cable up, turned on my w-10 recorder and let Windows begin it's search.

I manually pointed it to the pencam folder where it proceeded to load the drivers successfully. I am now able to transfer my files successfully. Hope this helps in some way.
