what software do I reinstall to solve the same problem. this problems happens periodically and sometimes will self-correct and let me download the pictures. In Nikon's Picture Perfect program I know the problem is recurring when it recognizes that the camera is hooked up, but would enumerate photos.

I also have trouble getting my shutter to snap pictures.

By far the best advice I can give you is to not hook the camera up to your computer. Ever. Not even for firmware upgrades.

Use a CF card reader. You can usually find these on the internet for <$15. I've gotten them for as little as $7. (Make sure it says CF, since nowadays many are only for SD, and the other mini card formats.

Any modern operating system will recognize the card when you plug the reader in to a USB port, then you can just drag the files, which are in a folder on the card, onto your computer. Ignore the other files on the card, they are not of concern.

Last thing, when you put the card back in the camera -format it. This should be done rather than either having the computer delete the files or allowing it to format the card. This will allow the camera to avoid writing to bad locations and prevent you form losing images.

I hope that helps.

I plugged in my A55 to download some pics today and it always pops up on my desktop that Im importing or viewing blah blah, this time, no pop up? Where did it go? I need to download my pics!!!

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

The sd1000 manual says that you will get this error when you have too many pictures on your memory card (aprox 1000). I am not sure how many I had on my 2GB card but it was a lot. I deleted about 50 - 100 pictures and then it started working again and the new pictures downloaded to the computer.

Failure to acquire pictures

1. Always use an AC adapter when downloading directly to a computer. 2. Check with the camera manufacturer (try its Web site) to make sure you have the latest version of the necessary software drivers. 3. If your camera connects via a serial (COM) port, check for serial-port conflicts. 4. If you're using a FireWire cable to connect to the computer, turn the computer on, turn the camera on and then connect the cable between the two. Don't turn off the camera while the cable is still attached.
