Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

Laptop not powering on

I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop and it was working ok a couple of days ago but know it does not power on. When I press the power button all I notice is the battery LED light flash red for a split second.
I have removed the RAM and wireless card and still get same problem. I read somewhere that it might be the processor, so I replaced it from another laptop (same model and make) and I still get same error.

Any ideas, help would be most appreciated.

Thanks for your post. No the battery light does not light up when I unplug the AC adaptor. I have tried removing the battery and also tried powering on using just the adaptor. I still get the battery LED light flashing red for a spilt second. The other interesting thing I noticed was when I removed the battery and try to power on using the AC adaptor, the green LED light on the adaptor turns off and there is no power coming from the adaptor even if I plug the adaptor into a working laptop. The AC adaptor is not faulty nor is the battery as I have tested them on another laptop and that works fine.

Same problem here - D600, no battery, connect using AC adapter from my Inspiron 6400 and it kills the adapter. Have to unplug before it will work again. I suspect a short in the MB connector.

When you unplug the ac adapter does the battery light lit up when you try to power on? If it does.. does the battery have life?? Well the next step is to remove the battery and try using only the AC adapter and see if it stays on.. if it doesn't they your power connection could be loose from the motherboard... B/C in general the LED for ac adapter should go on when you plug it in.... Well try that and see what happens..

Good luck..

I bet this is a motherboard short not just the power jack. If you use your laptop with a D series port replicator or docking station (make sure your adapter is a PA-10 90 watt adapter or it wont work!) and the light on the adapter goes out then its NOT the power jack its a bad motherboard. If seen a lot of these D600s die this way. I am seeing D600 motherboards on ebay for about $150 though if you like the laptop it might be worth it...

Dell Latitude Notebook D600

the laptop probably overheated.
I would get a cooler for the laptop they sell them at wal-mart or stores such as that one.
It's a small thin table like that the laptop sits on and it has 2 fans pointing up at the bottom of the laptop.
Unplug the power supply then hit the on button and try it if it don't work unplug the battery then try that.
