Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

They just stopped working!

I have 2 vacuums one is approx 6 months old and the other 1 1/2 years old. The model numbers respectively are:
U5194-900 series: ZF12.0 quit 3 weeks ago
and
U5180-900 series: ZC12.0 quit today (1/6/2008)

I was vacuuming a light job on carpet and they just quit working. The motors on both did the same thing. They just stopped turning. I checked to see if there was something keeping it from moving and they both could easily turn freely from the beater bar and at the motor shaft. I checked the breaker and it was not tripped. The push switch clicks as if it works. Any ideas and could this be taken care of under warrenty? I doubt that I kept the receipts, thinking that Hoover was a very good quality product.

Hoover has a 1 year warranty on their vacuums, so the newer one will be under warranty. The other won't be. It could be bad switches, even tho they sound ok, they could still be bad, One side of the cord could be open, there is also a thermostat on the motors, it may have opened up, then of course could even be the motor. Just would have to be check over.

Hello, we have the same unit, the U5180-900, worked fine then started smelling burnt electrical smell. Took it apart and found the motor armature commutator burnt. Probably not worth fixing, but I'll look up the price of a motor. The brushes look fine, so it wasn't the brushes worn down to the commutator. Checked the price of a motor, about 60.00. The machine new was about that price.

What year is a johnson 4 hp outboard serial number b 7643180 model number bj4brccs

To get the year of Johnson and Evinrude outboards use the word "INTRODUCES". Each letter corresponds to "1234567890" respectfully. It's best to check with a model year reference book, but this motor's model number contains "CC" which would indicate it's a '88.

My irobot (Roomba)is only working for 10 mins then

It should take about 6 hrs to charge. I had the same problem and reset the charging circuit. 1) Charge it until the green light comes on. 2) Unplug and pull battery out. 3) hold down the power on button 15-30 seconds. 4.) Put the battery back in, plug in the charger (direct - not through the dock) and charge for 72 hrs. Then, run at Max clean until the "I'm dead" tune plays.

Rainbow stops shortly after starting to vacuum

There is a thermal fuse on the motor field that sometimes fails. Sometimes the fuse does what it is supposed to do - prevents motor from overheating.
Causes:
a) Improperly worn motor brushes
b) bad motor bearings (that usually leads to uneven motor brush wear)
c) very dirty cooling air filter

To access filter and the motor - use small flat screwdriver to remove clear side panels. You will see 4 or 6 Phillips screws. Remove screws - cap will come off.

Good Luck,
Rocky

I purchased a Hoover WindTunnel 2 model#u8361900 in Dec 2007.I am very disappointed because the self cleaning filter is not turning and particles keep clogging in that area. I have manually removed the particles but the filter will not turn. I also haven't been able to use the pet brush for some time. The cleaner has not been used hard about once a week since it was purchased. I am not happy that this product has stopped working efficiently since purchased 6 months ago. Thank you Marcia Long Pottstown Pa
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I sorry you are having a problem with the Hoover WindTunnel Vacuum Model #U8361-900 but I never heard of a filter that you say is self cleaning and NOT turning. I have never seen a filter that turns inside the chamber, the dust and dirt basically go around and circulate around the filter and you can clean the filter by either brushing it off, vacuuming it off or using some type of brush to clean off the filter such as and old paint brush or if you have some type of blower system – that would work as well. You said your vacuum is less than one year old so I would contact your local factory authorized Hoover dealer in your area or to cal the cust serv @ the Hoover factory listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Without the model number, I can't look it up, but this has a 1 years warranty on it, maybe take it to a warranty shop. Just take proof of purchase, model and serial numbers.
