I have actually resolved the problem. I recalled that a smiliar problem happened to me with a Nokia phone about 5 years ago.
It seems, that over time, the battery developes a little room to move within the case. I believe this cases the PDA to lose power for a split second and crash.
So I used some double sided tape fill the small space to make the battery fit properly without any movement.
The PDA has been fine since. Not one crash over the last 48 hours of continual use.
