Green screen freeze up

when i start my ps3 up it runs fine for about 30 secs then the screen gets all distorted with green blocks and it freezes i can't do anything. So far i've got into safe mode a couple times but if i try anything it happens again. I have been able to run my HDD games with no probs and the time it first happen it loaded a disc game np and then when i quit game it went to the main ps3 screen and froze with the green.
