i gotta know: is ur drive pata/sata and the device make n model.. assuming that ur drive is pata, n u r a professional n aware of bios/cmos setup utility handling..!! openup ur system cabinet and see if all the data cables n jumper settingsat the back of the drives (master/slave selection)..itz mostimportant..!! however, at the bootup (0.29sec) start pressingbriskly the key to enter cmos utility or bios setup (eg. F1/F2/F10/Delas applicable)..glance in the standard settings if r detectedindividually..change the 'Mode' if m/b is hybrid type(both SATA+PATA) :Native/Compatible/Enhanced (as applicable).. see if ur device needs any additional driver or not, if so try downloading.. also try checking itz data cable for loose or faulty.. above all explanation is applicable only if itz not being detected by the m/b or system..(not for reading or writing problem)..
Select Software & Driver Downloads. Then select your operating system. You will then get a list of available downloads and also a link to order a new CD for many OS.
I suggest downloading using the Save button when the download window opens and direct it to save the file to your desktop. You can then prepare the printer and run (double-click) the file on the desktop.
If you have any problems, just Comment back.
Thanks for using Fixya.

- Pardon me but didn't you say 1210v? if you look at the other posts they are directing you to a 1210. I give you the main support page for the 1210v. Why only 2 thumbs up? I must say I am puzzled.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the entire software from the HP CD. I have even updated it with latest from the web. The printer works fine for printing from the computer as well as for copying functions. However, scanning doesn't happen - either from the Flatbed or from the Docuent Feeder. Restarting the PC doesn't help.
