Need help hooking up front panel on my n1996 mother board ms 7061 ver.1.0 i have power on but can't turn it on or off with power button. i know i have wires wrong
The only way to to fix this if your headers on your wires aren't labeled is to trace them back from the switch it self. Usually they are white and red. The orientation on the motherboard pins doesn't matter since it's only a switch. Make sure you are putting the plug onto the power switch jumpers, and not the power led, reset, etc..

Scroll down to the photo, and pinout, of a 9-pin HP Front Panel header (No.9 pin. Reserved. It is/was, reserved for the factory. 5 Volt DC test point. It is N/C. Not Connected)
n1996 is NOT the model number. ALL MSI boards are labeled n1996 - it's their C-Tick number. You need to find the actual model number which should be listed on a sticker near the main CPU socket. Search for that on msi's website.
