My canon turns on and nothing looks wrong and it

When you say it won't take a picture do you mean that when it powers up you can see what you want to take a picture of in the screen but the shutter will not work? Or do you only see black on teh screen but the camera appears to be working otherwise? When you push the button for the menu settings can you see all the menus? If you try to take a picture does it show up as a file on the memory card but the file contains only a black picture?
