Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB8600AW Jetclean II Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

Maytag dishwasher cleaning but NOT DRYING.

Our Maytag dishwasher (1.5 years old) Model MDB8951ASW which I htought was their top fo the line dishwasher....washes, albeit with loud noises coming from various cycles. almost sounds like some grinding on occasion and the spin cycles sound strange.

The main problem recently is that the unit washes the dishes, but it does not dry them. The unit does produce good heat that is hot, but the dishes are not coming close to drying as they used to with great ease.

any help would be necessary,

also, we did have a bad leak a few weeks ago, but runnign the garfbage disposal seemd to clear that up, perhaps there was a blokage that was preventing the unit from draining properly.

THANKS in advance!

SOURCE: Loud noise at end of Draining

If your dishwasher seems noisy, check these:
1. Water-inlet valve
2. Motor
3 Heater fan
4. Pump

Water-inlet valve
An aging water-inlet valve can sometimes fail slowly, rather than all at once. It can shudder on and off rapidly, causing the incoming water lines to shake, rumble, and rattle--sometimes violently. If yours is doing this, replace the inlet valve.

If it's the motor that's noisy, either of these may be the "culprit:"

As motor bearings wear out, they can become quite loud when the motor runs. They wear out quickly if they frequently get wet, because the water washes away the motor bearing grease. Bearings can get wet if the spin seal is defective. Then there will also be water leaking onto the floor beneath the dishwasher. Replace the seal if it leaks (read about the main tub seal in the "It leaks" section, later).

If, from beneath the dishwasher, you can see a round, plastic disc that's mounted to the top of the motor (a "slinger"), it may have broken free of the motor shaft. If so, it could be rattling around the shaft while the motor is running. If that's the problem, you need to replace the motor.

Heater fan
If the heater fan bearings are rusted or worn, they may squeal, or scrape loudly during the drying cycle. If this is the problem, replace the fan motor. Alternatively, the fan blade may be loose. If so, you need to replace it.

Small fruit pits, toothpicks, and fragments of glass sometimes get stuck in the pump. When this happens, open the pump and remove the debris. The pump is usually mounted directly to the motor, then attached to the bottom of the dishwasher.

To get to the pump, you usually need to remove the lower rack, the spray arms, and the spray arm support from the inside of your dishwasher. A dishwasher pump isn't obvious. Look for an impeller--a round, plastic fan blade-type device that spins around and pushes the water toward the drain. When you can see the drain impeller, you should be able to see the clogging debris.
good luck

The problem is hard water. has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

WHy does my Maytag dishwasher not clean dishes and making low sound?

Perhaps the spinnng arm which sprays water on the dishes isn't spinnng. Carefully weigh the choices between a repair visit$$$ or replacing the dishwasher if this is the case. It depends on how old your dishasher is and it's orignal value... i.e. is it the cheapest model or top of the line.

Dishes not coming out clean

There are some things you can try, however, if your Maytag dishwasher is not getting your dishes as clean as you would like. Maytag recommends several processes for fixing this issue with your dishwasher.

Do not run your Maytag dishwasher while hot water is being used in other parts of your home, such as washing clothes or showering. Hot water is needed for your Maytag dishwasher to properly clean dishes.

Run water in the sink in your kitchen until it gets very hot. Then, turn on your Maytag dishwasher. This will ensure that the water cleaning your dishes is the hottest possible temperature.

Clean your Maytag dishwasher to improve the cleaning results for dishes. Run your dishwasher on a short wash cycle and wait for it to fill up with water. Stop the cycle and add about 1/3 of a cup of rust remover to the dishwasher and finish the cycle. Run your Maytag dishwasher through one normal cycle with regular detergent to finish the cleaning process.

Check your detergent. Old detergent or those that have been exposed to moisture can be clumpy. This detergent will not clean your dishes as well when loaded into your Maytag dishwasher. Purchase fresh detergent.

Use extra detergent when washing dishes that have a lot of built-up grease or food particles. The extra amount of detergent is needed to get your dishes clean. Choose a long cleaning cycle to clean these dishes.

Fill your Maytag dishwasher properly. Dishes should not be stacked on top of each other or excessively crammed into your dishwasher. This will keep the dishwasher from adequately cleaning all areas of your dishes and from rinsing them thoroughly.

Our year old Maytag Dishwasher...Legacy Series...won't drain, which means it won't run another load

If you have a silver air gap on your counter top start there. It will pull off or turn off, make sure it is clean. Check your drain line to the garbage disposal, All ways run the water near your DW until it is hot. Most people do not do this and it amounts to 85 % Of my calls. Hope this helps.

I have an old free standing Maytag portable dishwasher, model number WC504. I just need to know what the differences in the drying options are. What is the difference between Power Dry, Temp Boost, and...

Power Dry uses a little more electricity when drying but does a good job.

Temp Boost will raise the wash temperature to clean better, this uses very little extra energy and works well, it may add a little time to the cycle

Energy saver will not dry the dishes or boost the water as hot as needed to sanitize. It will save about 2 cents per load.

If you need plastics to dry always put them in the top rack and use the power dry. Use rinse aid to help with drying.

Cant find rinse aid container

Many old dishwashers don't have a drying aid dispenser. If you have one, your will find some sort of cap to remove in the door, near where you place the detergent powder.
If you don't have one, you can buy an alternate vesion fo drying air, which is this little "basket" that you hang from the top rack. Avaiable in most stores.

Maytag dishwasher mdb9600awb - loud pump

This has happened a few times to me as well.(VERY VERY LOUD NOISE AT THE BOTTOM)I have the same model It did stop.I did a little reading and came to the conclusion that it was the built in food disposer chopping blades were chopping up something like a cherry pit or peach pit and once an end of a wooden spoon that dropped down.If you look at your USE and care Guide on page 12 under trouble shooting "Dishwasher seems noisy"..I went through the same thing taking things apart. Its got to be it. Mine is 2 1/2 years as well. Hope this helps.
