Most washing machines work with just one motor... it runs clockwise to run the transmission as an agitator and counterclockwise to run the pump and to turn the whole drum to spin dry. The belts often look loose but are fine. Check that the belts are on... if they are then the motor may not be running in reverse. if that is the case then you need to diagnose whether the motor is the problem or the controller. Check the centrifugal switch in the motor too.

Toward the end of the wash cycle, my whirlpool cabrio has started making a very loud crackling noise. As if the machine was making popcorn. Is this a quick and easy fix? Or am I looking at a bigger issue?
