Oven Door will not close properly

I believe the springs on my oven door have weakened to the point where the door cannot close completely. The oven light does not go off. Is the solution replacement of the spring?

My oven door won't stay closed. It is a 15yo Chef Versatile wall oven.

It appears that a spring loaded weight has seperated from the hinge .We are able to remove the door easily ,but then internally we hear a weight sliding about, and the hinge is in free fall.

Does anyone know what I can do about it ?:

I have a kenmore electric range and the door does not close completely - the light remains on. I have removed the face of the door and exposed the springs and hinges. I see no problem with the mechanism. I am going to grease the hinges and I may replace the gasket but I could use any suggestions that are available Paul B

Oven door will not close the whole way

Your oven door hinges(s) are broken, the springs that hold the door closed inside the hinges are either weakened or their mounting points have become worn.
You need to purchase a pair or replacement hinges which you can fit yourself if you have some basic mechanical skill. Don't try to just replace one side if you determine which side has failed as the extra strain put on the old hinge can cause the door to twist and break the door.

Door will not close completly

When you say "oven door will not close properly", do you mean that it closes but not tightly against the rubber seal on the oven cavity?

Or is it some other closing problem?

If it is the former, then it is a sign of the door hinge springs wearing out. The solution to this is to replace both hinges on the offending door.

Oven door won't close completely

You will probably have to replace the springs I doubt if they can ve fixed. you can open the door all the way and you will see a hole in the spring just inside the door. you can stick a nail in that hole, both springs that will hold the door open and you can lift the door out and check the springs I will tell you to have patience its not easy.

Oven door not closing properly

If it is a drop down door with hinges on the bootom of the oven door, then it is likely to be weak door hinge springs, the usual solution is to replace both hinges.
If it is a swing open door, then the problem is related to a worn or broken door catch, or worn striker pin.

We have a 30 in prostyle electric double wall oven - the oven takes forever to preheat and the doors do not seal tightly when they are closed.

Hello- Many ovens use spring-loaded hinges to carry the weight of the door. Over time, these springs weaken or the hinge gets bent just enough to not fully close door. The door gasket can also become flat and stiff, compounding problem. Any small gap releases heated air, and oven will not heat up properly. Replacing the door springs should solve problem.- Thanks -Ed

The oven door (Model SMW272) does not close completely. It may need an adjustment or a new seal?

Generally speaking, if a oven door does not close properly, and it is a drop down door, then it usually due to weak springs in the hinges.
There is no adjustment provided, so the only solutiom is to replace both door hinges.
