My Fisher Paykel GWL10US serial # CAN581045 is showing an error code. The first two lights when you turn it on are flashing. I called a technician and he looked it up and he said it's a faulty ''diverter valve''.
When we run the washing machine it fills up about 1/2 way and then without agitating or anything, just let's the water back out.
Does this sound like a divert valve problem for a top loading clothes washer?
Is it that hard to fix? THe repair guy said it would cost $225! ($109.95 for the house call, $60 for the part, + labor). Do you need to have special tools to replace a diverter valve?
Thanks!

Are there any new washing machines made that still have direct drive. That means that the agitator has two pieces and is not just one part. I told my repair man that my dad had been in the appliance sales and repair for over 50 years before he passed away and he said that normally he doesn't tell people about the new washers as they would be too depressed to learn that they are all garbage. I forgot to ask if him if anyone still makes them with direct drive.

My mother's Tricity Bendix washing machine, AW1000w does not appear to rinse properly. Her towels always feel like toast! Although she uses a minamal amount of detergent, I notice that on the washing cycle it produces a huge amount of suds. She has a water softener. She has had numerous plumbers and washing macine repair people in; generally they say it's the water pressure and have adjusted this accordingly. She has even had new taps fitted. None of this has made any difference. What can we do?
