Toshiba Satellite A60 powers up then off after 2 seconds

I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop and the other night I was attempting to do something on battery power and it shut down (went into powersave mode) before I was done. Three days later, I attempted to start it up by using a wall outlet and it powered up and clicked off after about 2 seconds. No BIOS showed, the screen stayed black. I pulled the battery and tried using only AC and it did the same thing. I left it overnight to see if the battery would charge and it did (so I don't think it's the power supply), then tried it and the problem persisted. It was working fine before (with the exception of not coming out of standby - you had to shut down and restart if it went into standby). Otherwise, I have had no major problems. Additionally, it is about 3 - 4 years old. I could really use some help as I am not ready to pay out for a new one. Thanks.

Ireceived a toshibaLaptopA65 S126 that willk not power up. The battery and charger is fine. When I turn on the power, the fan and hard drive starts to power up and then after 3 seconds, it shuts off. The power and battery light stays green but it will not go. Any solutions?

I have the same problem with my Satellite M45 S265 which is also more than 3 years old.... my led lite goes on when i plug it also and charges the battery fine..

Well i did some diagnostic on it.. and think it mite be a bad motherboard.. b/c i removed the RAM, HDD, and CPU to see if it would power up (not boot up) and it still does the same power on and after 4-5 seconds it just turn off with the AC and Battery lite still on...

Well I still want other suggestion b/c I dont' want to spend about 3 hundrend for another motherboard or buy another one yet.. (dont got the budget for it)... So if anyone out there can help us.. that would be great..

    Thanks for your help!!

The cooling fan and hard drive do come on. It just shuts off 3 seconds after you turn it on

It really does not stay on enough to see if the dvd comes on but you can hear the fan and hard drive start and then shuts off Thanks

I removed the ram and tried to start it with only the onboard ram and the same thing, nothing. I think I will take it back to the person I got it from since once I take it apart, it would be mine. I appreciate all your help, and I was trying to see if there was an easy fix, but I guess not. Any ideas on a good used laptop? sincerely, Mark

I have exactly the same problem A65-S126 model. It was working fine, then went to sleep and can not wake up since. Have removed the hd, ram, wireles card, modem... Once I was able to boot it to Desktop, but it died to blue screen shortly sugesting overheating issue. I plan to open it up to check for loose heatsink, bad fans, etc... Will update then.

Mark F K, truong808, does the cooling fan(s) blow or come on? If not, the system will sense tha ti is overheating and will shut down to prevent further damage. Also, a thermal sensor may be failing on the Mobo and thus keep the fan from initiating. The cheapest fix is to replace the fan. Worst case scenario is another Mobo may be the fix.

Satellite pro A60 powers on then immediately turns off. this is following an attempted bios update

It sounds like you have 'bricked' your laptop, chances are you would have to have it sent off for repair. do you see the POST screen any more before it powers off?

Toshiba satellite A60 no boot

We can only assume that because the cd drive operates then the motherboard is operating in part, although, the southbridge chip may be damaged, as the northbridge works memory etc. Maybe it is that the processor is fried as there is no fan and the system then shuts down. Toshiba are probably half way there with the answer, unless; they investigated further and decided it was not the processor but the motherboard.
