Problem for Wacom Intuos3 Graphic Tablet

Stroke thickness suddenly increases unpredictably

Hello! My Wacom Intuos3 stylus keeps making intermittent (but increasingly frequent) sudden increases in stroke thickness (to 100% pressure equivalent) when I use it with Photoshop CS4 (even though "size jitter" is set to 0 in the Brush parameters tab). Is this likely to be a hardware or software problem, and what can I do about it? Thanks a ton!
