Cd player not working (by 3 users)

emerson home audio system with 6cd changer ms9700. Everything works expect the cd player. The player will light up and it sounds like it working, however the sound that come out are quiet squealling noises.

The cd tray ejects but closes immediately

The CD player will not work. It spins the CD's but no sound and no numbers on the viewing screen. Everything else works just fine.
