Why are the hp 88 printheads diing after a period

why are the hp 88 printheads diing after a period of time they begin to blink on my k5400 and it asks me to replace the failing printhead, is there a solution for this problem can they be fixed i tried to change the chips between printheads the problem was still on,...Can this broken printheads be revieved, because their nozzels ar clean...the only problem is that the printer will not print with them(the light for the print head blinking)
