I have error 0146 once i hit the diagnostics

i have error 0146 once i hit the diagnostics button on my laptop. i read from many sites that it is disk failure. does this mean that there is no hope for data?

It is a hard disk drive read/write failure. It may be possible to recover data from the drive once it is replaced if you slave the drive on another system. If that fails, then there is the option of data recovery from places like Ontrack.com but be warned, data recovery is expensive
