Question about Garmin StreetPilot c550 GPS Receiver

3 Answers

Unable to acquire satellites after a software upgrade.

I received a c550 on 1/3/08. It worked great on 1/4/08. I upgraded the software from the garmin.com site in the evening of 1/4/08 and now it won't find any satellites. I've performed a master reset and a user data reset numerous times and set it outside for at least 45 minutes (as garmin suggests on it's user support page) with no luck.

Thanks for the response. I did try downloading the update again. 3 times actually. On 2 different computers (1 with Vista, 1 with XP thinking it might be a Vista problem). My next step was to try and download the old version but I can't find it on Garmin's site. I think they might not keep old versions. Do you happen to know where I might find the old version?

Thanks for the response. I did end up sending the unit back to Garmin and they sent me a new unit. Very quickly, actually (within 1 week of shipping). The new unit does contain the 6.0 version but so far it seems to work fine.

Hi, same problem...  Anybody find a fix yet that doesn't require sending it back to Garmin?  Thanks!

Kevin,
How are previous versions aquired if not from Garmin's site? Are they available from a third party site and if so I do I acquire them?

I was informed by Garmin support to not download the latest updates as there may be a conflict issue. I have the same problem as you and they are sending a replacment unit and was told to run the unit as sent and not to download any current updates.

Have you tried downloading the update again? It's possible it did not download correctly, If this doesn't work, it may be possible to download the previous version again.

The previous versions ARE available, just as an FYI. I know you have new units, but if you have issues in the future, the previous versions are not kept on Garmin's site, but they are available.

Yes, the previous versions are available from a third party site. They are available from GPSinformation.org, if I remember correctly. It is not so user friendly, but if you scroll about two-thirds down, you should see something that says Garmin previous versions, or something like that. You click it and pick your unit.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Here's a link to this great service

Good luck!

I would like to upgrade my iPhone, is it worth it?

In my opinion, you don't have to upgrade. As far as i can see, there is nothing that you absolutely have to have on the iphone 5. And by the time you upgrade and get used to your new phone, there will be an iphone 6 out. Maybe you should wait for the 6 to come out then upgrade.

Garmin Nuvi 360 - Acquiring Satellites

Did you check to make sure that it is not in demo mode?
I've seen complaints that the unit is not working, and it was in demo mode.

If everything is set up properly and it still does not work, you will most likely have to send it to Garmin in the US.
