have installed new printer but computer now runs very slow and it is difficult to access programs, even microsoft word takes forever to open. it is windows xp software so should be compatible,could it just be a memory problem or is it more serious.?

Check that you did not install a 64-bit driver on a 32-bit system, Vista driver on Windows 7, etc. unless that is what your system specifically requires. Do not install the full package either, download the link on the website that says "driver only". A lot of the software printers install are kinda crappy because they assume you have no picture editing software, scanning software, etc. They are usually really cheap bloated software suits that don't compare to some of the more mainstream office products.
