Question about RCA F27450 27" TV

Toshiba 36ZD26P purchased in UK Nov 2002

New Year 2008, tv has developed a problem - first one since purchase. Problem - when turning on the TV and using Sky sat., the t.v. turned itself on to stand-by, leaving a blue screen (this ocurred within a couple of minutes of switching it on). Then/Now when turning tv on, it turns itself off, the screen goes directly to colour black and then switches off altogether. Basically t.v. considered broken, also can't use DVD or Video player as same problems occurs BUT can still use same tv with Playstation II.

A possible clue to how this problem has arisen is that we live in Andalucia/Spain where in our area the voltage drops and increases (I think they call it spiking). I recently had to have the transformer replaced between the computer and the internet as the provider thinks that the transformer doesn't work at less than 170 volts and this may have 'blown it' (my neighbour who is with another internet provider in the same area had to have the same transformer replaced) could a voltage problem have affected my t.v., all this seems to have ocurred very recently? Can my t.v. be fixed or should I buy a new one?

Thanks for any assistance you can give.

Good day.

I belive that is a problem with regards to supply of the area. I recommend that you purchase a regulated power supply or a UPS which has the required input supply of your units so that voltage interference can be resolved.

If you use a fully-wired scart lead to connect the DVD to the set it should autoswitch to the correct AV input when the DVD is switched on or the disc drawer opened.

Toshiba TV 27AF42 purchased 7-2-02 Have cable

It's not the TV. Its the remote. Remote controls don't last for ever. Try a universal remote. Try Radio Shack it should do the job. Do you have a cable converter then ask your cable comapny to give you a new remote.

Toshiba 36hfx71 has dropped a color. People are now blue.

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need a power supply module. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Magnavox 19" TV shuts itself off.....won't stay on

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

TV only 2 months old ceases to work

I think it is the EHT for some reason it blew off for you. You got a miniature picture after you turned it on again because it was partially damaged and then it blew off completely. It can be fixed from a competent person.

You most likely have some broken solder connections either in the low voltage area or in the horizontal section of the tv, board has to be removed and re-soldered, hope this helps

Toshiba 32A41 TV -- color problem

Toshibas are notorious for developing shorts in the inernal guns of the picture tube. In your case the green gun is shorted to G1. The noise you heard was an internal arc between the elements. It is unfortunate however, the repair of this problem usually requires the picture tube to be replaced. Sometimes a savvy technician with sencore picture tube rejuvenator can remove the short. This however usually does not last. Scrivitron
