I have an Aspire 8930G and the light on my wireless LAN keeps going out meaning I can't get the internet wirelessly. Switching the wireless LAN button makes no difference. If I plug in a cable it works fine so I know the router is ok. Only a system restore to a couple of days ago helps and then after the couple of days further use the problem starts again. Anyone got any ideas?

Try to reinstall the driver for your wireless adapter... it is most likely a driver issue... hope this helps...

  • HarbyNotts Jan 14, 2011

Gosh, this worked! Thank you. Vista. I uninstalled the Intel 5100 then reinstalled it. At first PC moaned with a Windows error 31, but this cleared itself when I went into device drivers section of Control Panel>System. This showed the question mark error by the Network Adapter, wireless Intel 5100 ... but then magically it created another one (which it called Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100 #2). At this point, when I pressed the Acer WiFi switch on the 8950g right hand side, it now blinked orange. So this was now working.

There was still the device driver Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (not #2) showing, which had the error, but I simply uninstalled this.

Thanks again, hope this helps others.

I can't turn on my wireless LAN. There is a button at the top of the keyboard of my Acer Aspire 4520 but when I press it, it says "wireless LAN disabled". I have tried everything to turn it back on....

Try to restore your PC to the backdated point in SYSTEM RESTORE menu in control panel. Then try to switch ON wireless again. If this step does'nt work it means your Hardware (wireless adapter) is malfunction. Replace with a new one (USB Wireless adapter)

WIRELESS CONNECTION

Go to the Device Manager and check Wireless Network Adapter properties. Is the Wireless adapter installed, working properly and enabled? If not then reinstall the wireless LAN driver.

If it is OK then go to the Control Panel and click on Network Connections and right click on the wireless connection anf then click on Repair. This will make the wireless router issue a new IP address to the wireless LAN card and you whould now get access to the Internet & your network.
If this doesn't work power down your wireless router wait 1/2 minute, power up and boot up your laptop after all the normal LEDs on the wireless are on.

Let me know if you still have problems plus all error messages.
