At the top of the machine where the controls are at look for 2 screws (Usually philips) either in the front of back of the top base.
Unscrew those and then the top piece can be removed easily.
Once removed pop the two metal brackets out with a flat screwdriver, and unplug the lid switch.
At this point you should be able to remove the entire top to have access to the inside.
