Question about Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Receiver

Can not get StreetPilot C340 to turn on

I've owned my Garmin for about two years. I uses it a lot the first year and a half due to traveling. My traveling has slowed down now and I don't use it as much. I keep it in the glove box in my car, protected so it won't get bounced or damaged. I haven't needed to use it for about 4 to 6 months. I needed it the other day, and after hooking it up, and letting it charge overnight, it would not turn on the next day nor sence. Is there a built-in battery in the Garmin that needs to be replaced ?, and if so, where and how do I go about replacing it ? Thank you for any help you can give me. It's a great tool for traveling. Frank

I've read your suggestion that I need to take the front cover off and hit the reset button. OK, but how do you take the cover off without damaging the plastic or causing further damage to the unit.

Well GooseBayCamper, thanks for the info. My main question, other then how to charge the battery, was, how to take the GPS apart to hit the reset button without damageing the unit. I read how too from another questionier on the same problem. I tried what he had said, and bingo, there was the reset button, I pushed it and plugged it in to my car and everything works fine now. No it wasn't fried, or frozen, but I will keep it in the house now. Hope I don't forget it when I go on a trip..:) :) ontheroad

Frank, the ownwer's manual says to protect unit from extreme temperatures stated as "32 degree F to 122 degree F" or "zero degree C to 50 degree C" You said about a year and a half of use and then in the "Glove Box" so from August to January, there had to be clear sunny hot days in August, resulting temperature in car (depending on your lattitude) going up 140 to 150 degrees F... Just hope you're Canadian.... or maybe you toasted it.... sorry. Good Luck GB_C

SOURCE: can not get StreetPilot C340 to turn on

Yes its most likely the battery, if you plug it into the charger, I assume it powers up normally? Il see if I can get you instructions on battery replacement. I remember there was one for your model or a similiar one. Hold on.

Why does my c340 keep losing satellite reception

Hello there:
please follow these instruction and this should help if not let me know and i willcontinue to get you more information for you
nstructions
  1. Step 1 Calibrate the screen of the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the touch screen does not seem to respond when you hit it with your finger or a stylus, you may need to calibrate it. To do this, turn the unit off and then hold down the "Power" key for approximately one minute. You will see a calibration screen come up that will recalibrate the GPS2_bing.gif unit.
  2. Step 2 Reset the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If your GPS unit is not responding or is stuck on a particular screen, it may need to be reset in order to operate. To reset, remove the face plate of the unit by gently prying it off. Locate the "Reset" button under the face plate and press down in order to restart the device.
  3. Step 3 Change the fuse of the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the fuse blows on the GPS, you will need to make a replacement using an ACG/3AG 2 amp fuse. Unscrew the adapter cord at the end and remove the fuse found there. Put in the new fuse to see if this returns function to the unit.
  4. Step 4 Update the software for your Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the GPS is not providing you with correct directional information, you may need to update the software or download new maps onto the device. Connect the Garmin StreetPilot C340 with the USB cord to your PC and log on the Garmin website for available updates.

My Garmin StreetPilot c340 is frozen.

No.......the C340 STREET PILOT has a hidden reset button. Put your fingernail in the slot just under the GARMIN name on the front face plate. Gently pull the face plate outward. Don't take it all the way off. The reset button is on the right side of the front screen just under this plate. Use a pointed object and hold the button IN for 3 seconds and unit will turn off. When you power it back up it will REBOOT.

The battery usually has a small charge when arriving from the factory, but it can die before it is received. You should charge this by plugging it into the car or the computer.

Charging unit with AC adapter

I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .

Garmin 340 streetpilot won't even turn on?

I had the same issue with mine during a trip. Probably needs to be reset. See page 31 of the users manual on Resetting your c340. Once I did this it worked fine.
