How does the filter fit?

Hi, Did you change both the cone and the filter on the top lid? If so, ther may be a leak in the machine breaking the air tight vacuum. When you put it together make sure its in properly and tight. Let me know if this does not help, I will look at something else. Chris

The red light on the filter Queen is on to tell you to empty the canister and change the filter. It is a heat sensor that makes it come on and if it is full it gets hot. Also when you take the motor piece off of the bucket under the nylon cone shaped guard that protects the motor there is a secondary filter in there that needs to be changed from time to time and they are supplied with the cones inside the package of rep[lacement cones there should be a spare or maybe two. It is a round thin filter about 3.5 inches across and it just fits in very easily and there is a plastic ring that holds it in place. So pop out the ring and remove the old one and then replace it with the new one put the ring in to hold it...it just snaps into place.replace the nylon guard and put in a new filter cone. Put the machine back together and away you go the light should turn off and you are good to go. As a quick test Plug in the vac again and turn on the switch, then try your power head. If the head works you have a motor problem, if the head doesn't you likely have a cord problem.
You seem to be saying it failed while running??? which generally indicates your switch is the suspect.
Check the motor for a worn or sticking carbon brush.
Motor is access by removing the chrome lid and 3 screws under the handle., then removing the paper cone and unscrewing the center screw a t he bottom of the plastic.cone cage...

High pitched sound is often caused by air leaks in air ducts. This will also cause hoover loosing sucking power and slightly overheating.

If the hoover is overheating a lot, then noise can also come from the motor. In that case the part must be rplaced.

Try replacing the cone filter, the secondary filter, and the insulation at the top of the machine.
If that does not fix the problem, then the hoover must be taken apart to clean or repair the air duct.

This is a very straight forward good quality vac, with excellent filtration.
The cannister has two large clamps to release the motor from the dust chamber. Depending onb the age you may have an LED which comes on when it is time to empty the vac. The cleanest way to empty is to leave the paper cone over the dirt and carefully tip all into a garbage bag sitting on the floor.
You should replace the paper cone with a genuine fresh one each time you empty the container. In addition there is a paper disc inside the motor housing which you will access by removing the flat screw at the bottom of the plastic grille cone.

If the light is on you either have a clog some were in the system or the motor is shot. Does it come on? If so check the hose/wand/and nozzle for obstructions then empty the basin and put a fresh secondary (under the plastic cone) filter, and a new cone filter in machine. This should solve the problem.

The high pitched noise could be because the vacuum is loosing airflow. does the red light come on on the top? if it does ot emptythe vacuum, replace the cone filter, the secondary filter, and the batting in the top of the machine. also hook the hose to the top of the vacuum to make sure there are no clogs in the hose.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Sorry my suggestions did not help but I have a few more suggestions, what type of hoe do you have? Is it a cloth, braided hose or is it a vinyl electric hose? If it is a clothe hose check the suction on the machine end then hook up your hose and then check the suction on the hose end, if there is a leak of some sort replace the hose – otherwise it may be the motor and then you may what to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer, the Filter Queen Factory or check the listing I will give your below for a price quote from the factory or another dealer. Question? Do you have a cone filter in the unit now and is there a bat filter around the top of the motor area? Canada is probably a little higher priced then if you ship the vacuum to maybe the US or the FQ Factory.

How to empty?

I inherited this Filter Queen "Cheetah" (but it isn't black ... chrome) and don't know how to empty the thing.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The Filter Queen uses a cone filter and there are 2 or 3 clamps to release to remove the cone and then you dump the dirt sitting in the bottom of the canister and then replace the new cone filter and repeat the process.
