My Sharp LCD TV just quit on me while watching. I now only get a flashing power light and the tv shuts off after restart.

If power led flashing once continuously, then it is a lamp error, most likely it is a failure of the back light inverter unit, in rear occasion, one of the lamp would fail, then authorized service would have to call sharp technical support to get a lamp for your TV.
